I am Ilan's Lab Manager and a Postdoctoral Researcher. I have been working in the Davis Lab since 2013 where I take care of the day-today running of the lab, I help supervise students, organise teaching and other lab activities like outreach, I maintain equipment and deal with any problems that arise. I also assist Ilan in grant and paper writing and am the first port of call for help on statistics for the lab.
Outside the lab I love watching and even occasionally playing football, surfing and I love quizzes. I am involved in the Oxfordshire Pub Quiz League where I play for The Blackbird. I used to play gaelic football (pretty badly) and am still involved with the local club Eire Og Oxford.
For my research work, I manage and work on a large-scale screening project on RNA and protein location in the Drosophila brain and peripheral nervous system. This has been a long-running collaborative project involving a lot of researchers and we are currently preparing papers for publication. This project has screened several hundred genes at a single molecule resolution throughout intact brains and has generated thousands of high-quality images for analysis. The results are extremely exciting and we feel that this large dataset will be a fabulous resource for the research community, so watch this space!
